Jeremy and Caroline’s Wedding at Timberline Lodge
Jeremy and Caroline, two paddlers on my dragon boat team, had a wedding up on Mt. Hood at the Timberline Lodge. They had the wedding in late August and yet it was ridiculously cold! The ceremony was outdoors, and the view was fantastic, but I had to feel bad for Caroline, with her arms and shoulders bare, she must have been so cold! At the cocktail hour in the Raven’s Nest, the staff was waiting with many tasty and refreshing, but cold drinks. I opted to wait for the hot chocolate.
The reception was a blast, and the Maniacs represented well during the speeches with a PG, Anniemaniacs rendition of “I’m on a boat.” The dancing was fun but eclectic. The DJ played the popular wedding songs and slow songs (and even the Macarena and YMCA), but also took requests from the crowd, some of which were current big hits, and others like Paperboy’s Ditty, House of Pain’s Jump Around, and Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back.
Having recently been obsessing over roasted potatoes (thanks to Kurt’s catering) I wouldn’t stop talking about potatoes throughout the night. To give credit, the Lodge’s tasty bread & butter balls and polenta (it takes a lot to win me with polenta) were very good. After grabbing the last shuttle from Timberline to Government camp, where the guests had coincidentally rented out the entire 2nd floor of the Huckleberry Inn, we hung out in each other’s rooms, reminiscing about the evening. After enough talk from me about potatoes, at 2am we decided to head down to the Huckleberry Inn’s 24-hour restaurant, and ordered milkshakes, fries, and hashbrowns.
Fun times. 🙂
